As I type my curriculum I've listened to Christopher Titus
If you've never heard of Christopher Titus, or his three season show on Fox named Titus,

This is his newest comedy special. Haven't got to listen to the entire thing, but I respect his comedy and a lot of his comedy hits really close to home, especially when he talks about his Mother who's a Paranoid Schizophrenic ... Being the son of a father with multiple personalities, who also has a grandmother he's never met who is a Paranoid Schizophrenic I tend to identify alot with his comedy.
It's comedy for the disfunctional families .. and as he says in Norman Rockwell is bleeding ... comedy for 60% of us in america :D |

So here's an update.
I didn't get the job in Canada.
But it's ok, Like I said I was expecting it, and HEY! It was my first art test and that's a step in the right direction.
Christmas was a little rough, My Step-Father had his second knee replacement surgery. He came back from the hospitle Christmas Eve. So Christmas was a bit rough, The family had to make do and we got through the hump. And I think everyone is looking towards 2007.
Been talking to some friends lately, checking in with people and is sounds like a lot of my Art Friends and I are in the same boat, and ... ironicly, doing the same job (i.e Student Teaching, Latch-key)
So, I am currently looking into a summer camp that teaches kids age 12-17 3D Modeling, Game Design, Web Design, ect. ect. I just got off the phone today with a phone interview, and I'm in a pretty positive mood (untill I get turned down :-\; but I think the interview went really really well.) The only thing really REALLY keeping me from this job, is me not knowing 3DS MAX. I have a feeling that's what detracted me from having a chance at the canada job; since I didn't do any of the animation in 3DS Max, I just converted the Maya File over to a format that Max could read.
My job with at the school with the 40+ kids is starting to get to me so I've been upping the ante on the job hunt and slowely winding down the WoW. Somedays I'm really peppy and full of energy and exitment and I have fun with the kids. Other days.... I just get overwhelmed, it really has it's ups and downs; but I really have to look at this for what it is. A live experience and a test, and something that will help me later. (Hey I might have a little Jake-lett running around) So the Alanis song "Hand In My Pocket" is kind of fitting my life right now, and a lot of friends I know.
So hopefully I get the job at the camp(it pays more than my current job, and is a chance to move to a state, for 8 months, that has a predominant infuluence in the gaming industy, make connections that I don't have.)

So here's an update.
After 6 Months of Applying to jobs in the game industry... after rejection e-mail after rejection letter after recetion e-mail.
I have an oppertunity, I recieved an e-mail from a company asking me to complete an art test!
For those of you who don't know what any of that means, think of it as an audition BEFORE an interview.
I have to model Tennis Player Rafael Nadal, Rig Him, and Animate him doing a serve.

So what's up with me?
Gota part time job.
Moved My Computer Upstairs, cutting the FUCK back on playing WoW.
Gota part time job working at the YMCA early mornings and late afternoons with Kids. (it's a ton of fun)
August was unproductive :-\
Got a lot of rejections on jobs, btu even more people didn't even RESPOND back :-\
SoI finally decided to grow a pair and go onto the Polycount forums and ask them for their 2 cents about my resume/reel/work/website.
What am I doing wrong? Why don't I have a job? How much farther do I have to go???
Their response was overwhelming.
1. I need to bust my ass off making more models :-\ with the current amount of work I have (even thought I am getting better with each model I make) It still is not enough for anyone to gague my level of experience.
2. and this was the BIG BIG one:
My Flash Website, all be it very technical and very nice flash work, does NOT FIT with the criteria and needs of a HR person at a AAA Game Producing company to asses QUICKLY my work, or anything.
Pretty much my flash website takes on average 25 seconds to view 1 picture, and with some browsers there are some problems. I did not forsee this problem, because I was not TAUGHT to make websites this way at BGSU's digital arts Interactive ART class.
We are taught that our websites are our art, to have BS artist statements and crap like that.
Any BGSU allumni, or people who are trying to get INTO the industry of Commercial art ...
you're website needs to be QUICK, it needs to present your work clearly and display it openly.

So, how about an UPDATE with like substance!
I don't have a job, I live in my parents basement, and somewhere between the end of june and the middle of july I sant into a brief stint of depression which involved in my sleep schedule becoming COMPLETELY fucked up.
This ALLways happens when I live in St. Louis. And I allways feel like I never have the control or maturity to live anywhere otherwise.
But, there is good news on the horizon.
The past couple of weeks, I started modeling the New Dave model again; and this week I have been busting my ass putting together new rotations, and renders, and a better composite of all of my material.
I actually now have something that resembles a demo reel! And I am currently printing 50 DVDs of it; because in 2 hours time I am getting on a plane and flying to boston to go to siggraph. There are going to be a TON of companies there and they are recruiting.
Hopefully 1 of those companies likes what I do; I get a job, I move, and I can get a life, feel better about who I am; and perhaps talk to my friends I have been ignoring and have been avoiding talking too because get this:
I am ashamed of who I am right now.
Which you know what, I shouldn't be, this happens to EVERYone after college for awhile.

Everyone, for writing bizaroo LJ entry's when I haven't had 2 days of sleep because I've been....
oh! OH! get this everyone let me tell you the troubles I've had trying to get this reel together.
My computers hard drive is slowely on it's way to being FUCKED. I need to buy a new one and a copy of windows and probably re-format and re-install.
I noticed this RIGHT after school ended when my computer was SLOW as hell. I tried to install after effects on this machine (video editing software I need to composite frames rendered in maya; kind of a necesity for making ANY sort of demo reel.) so I blitz it to Circuit City and put down some cash to buy some simpler software (Sony Studio 6) to edit and composite video.
It then takes me 2 days to re-render and fish through all my files INCLUDING my messed up "Jake and Dave" cartoon files where the files in themselves are fucked.
And while I'm mixing all these files/videos/still and backgrounds together, my computer keeps crashing halfway throug the render. this is ... you know a 1 hour total render ... so I've tried to make this movie like 3 times, 3 hours. I then decide to split the render and merge them at a halfway point.
ok.... so I eventually get all the video composited to render .. and ... burn on a dvd.
So I kick up the burning software ....
...... ... ... DING
DVD's done...
Pop it in a DVD player,
CORRUPTED
Pop in another burn ...
CORRUPTED
I'ts midnight at the time .... I get on a plane in 6 hours at this point ...
Get it my car ::VROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM:::
Book it to wal*mart. Buy a Sony External 16X Burner. Rush back home.
By this time I have said, FUCK you awesome computer, and I have installed all of the Video Editing, DVD Publishinh Software on my parents computer. I finish editing my video add some text and tags, render out the video. It looks pretty badass.
Ok time to plug in the external burner ...
....
..
..
.....
Nothing...
FUCK, I read the manual, I fiddle still nothing. In a LAST ditch effort I plug it into my fucked up computer ... which as we all know now is FUCKED UP.
DING DING! ZOMG it works, holeeeyyyy shiit. I burn a DVD about every 4-5 minutes with a start menu and a 2.5 minute demo reel. So as I test them on a dvd player and make sure they work watching the entire thing, the next one is ready.
.... got to head out for the plane in 90 minutes and I just HOPE I can burn at least 30 more of these bastards.
So that's what my week has been like.
Dude next week is going to be awesome, and I just hope the month of august is better than july was.
OH OH!!!
And while I was struggeling with my comp and my reel and my burner ect. ect. my super mom was re-working my resume, and making me awesome buisness cards.
I LOVE MY MOM.
I may hate living here with her, but my mom rules.
